Hybrid Adaptive Low Cost Upper Limb Support Device for FES Stroke Rehabilitation
نویسندگان
چکیده
A novel design of a low cost non-powered orthosis device for home-based upper limb stroke rehabilitation is proposed. The design allows the device to be integrated with a dual robotic and electrical stimulation control scheme, to thereby enable full exploitation of the motor relearning principles which underpin both robotic therapy and Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) based stroke rehabilitation. This work focuses on the mechanical design of the non-powered orthosis, based on gravity balancing theory and provides preliminary dynamic simulations of the 3D CAD model.

Upper Limb Rehabilitation Robot Powered by PAMs Cooperates with FES Arrays to Realize Reach-to-Grasp Trainings
The reach-to-grasp activities play an important role in our daily lives. The developed RUPERT for stroke patients with high stiffness in arm flexor muscles is a low-cost lightweight portable exoskeleton rehabilitation robot whose joints are unidirectionally actuated by pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs). In order to expand the useful range of RUPERT especially for patients with flaccid paralys...

BACKGROUND Stroke can lead to significant impairment of upper limb function which affects performance of activities of daily living (ADL). Functional electrical stimulation (FES) involves electrical stimulation of motor neurons such that muscle groups contract and create or augment a moment about a joint. Whilst lower limb FES was established in post-stroke rehabilitation, there is a lack of cl...

This study examined Stimulation Assistance through Iterative Learning (SAIL), a novel stroke rehabilitation system for the upper limb. Five hemiparetic stroke participants with reduced upper limb function undertook 18, 1 hour training sessions. Participants completed 3D tracking tasks in which they moved their impaired arm to follow a slowly moving sphere along a specified trajectory. The parti...
متن کاملAn Exploratory Investigation on the Use of Closed-Loop Electrical Stimulation to Assist Individuals with Stroke to Perform Fine Movements with Their Hemiparetic Arm
Stroke is the leading cause of upper limb impairments resulting in disability. Modern rehabilitation includes training with robotic exoskeletons and functional electrical stimulation (FES). However, there is a gap in knowledge to define the detailed use of FES in stroke rehabilitation. In this paper, we explore applying closed-loop FES to the upper extremities of healthy volunteers and individu...
